Looking back at 2007/2008

Wymondley Park Firesharks
U 12's finished their 07/08 season  with a commendable  fourth place in Division 2 of the AVC Chiltern League .   The Chiltern League has six Divisions at U 12 age group which demonstrates the strength and ability of football at this age level in this league.

A tough pre season for Firesharks in 2007 saw the team change clubs from Hitchin Town to Wymondley Park and also have seven players depart from a squad of 13 . Runners up place  in the esteemed Premier Division was achieved in the Mid Herts Rural Minors League as U 11's by May 2007 but a forced  major rebuild by coaches Denise Miley and Karen French throughout the summer saw Firesharks with just 12 players signed in July ready to face Chiltern League teams.

Firesharks have had a remarkable season.  The squad built up eventually to just  13 boys which involved some games being played with just 11 players and one league fixture being played with  10  boys.
The highest placing achieved was second position which says a lot about the strength commitment and hard work put in by the players  over many months.   St Josephs became runaway league champions but Firesharks beat every single team placed above them in the league including St Joe's and indeed beat every team in the division bar Aylesbury United.
Inconsistency has been the flaw this season with some remarkable football being played at times and in other games below standard performances.  Firesharks are possibly 2-3 players short of being the hugely successful and trophy winning team of U 9 U10 and U 11's so it will be interesting to see how they progress by returning to the Royston Crow League for season 2008-09 as U 13's given the addition of some experienced new players who have approached us to join the squad

The Players : Much more to  be said about these boys at Presentation Day but :
Dom J was a new recruit as goalie, Dom proved very popular with the rest of the team  and has had a good season and certainly he and his dad have had the longes distances to travel given the fixtures we were set!
A defence comprising of Courtney, Callum, Ethan and Andy began to work very well together after the first few games and were complimented on their organisation by opposing managers.
Midfield consisted of Joe M, Matt H, Dom E, Joe F, Will, Matt W.  Each had made a great contribution in different roles and the two top scorers were midfielders which says lots about Firesharks style of attacking play.
Strikers consisted of Ben and Ryan and each has made a good contribution to the team effort with some excellent goals scored.

Firesharks were generously sponsored this season by Steve French of Options for kit and by Jerry Lucas at J Clean for rainjackets.
